Kitten Rescued from the Streets Finds Love and Security in New Home

A calico kitten was found abandoned in a box in North Philadelphia earlier this month with a wound on one of her legs. She was immediately rushed to ACCT Philly for help. A veterinary technician at the shelter, Erica, shared with Love Meow that “It was obvious that there was something wrong with her right hind foot”. After cleaning and treating the wound, the kitten was ready to start her healing process, and Erica took her home to foster.

The kitten, with perfectly split markings on her face, was lovingly named Phoebe. She was provided with a comfortable nest and plenty of soft bedding to knead on. In no time, she began demanding attention from her foster mom, crying for her every time Erica came to tend to her. Despite having a bum leg, Phoebe was always on the move and refused to slow down.

Phoebe was eating slurry on her own and taking meds like a champ. She put on weight steadily each day, and her energy quickly doubled. In less than two weeks, Phoebe has grown in size and strength and has hit several milestones. She is now using her litter box and has a lot of sass in her tiny body.

Phoebe’s leg is healing beautifully, and she is blossoming into a skilled climber who can clamber up a pillow mountain in seconds. Erica gifted her a large plushy to keep her company, so she wouldn’t feel alone. The sweet calico welcomed the sloth right into her crib and was glad to have a faux mama to snuggle with during her snooze hours.

Forest, the resident cat and foster extraordinaire, has a soft spot for kitties in need. He is very sweet and nurturing to every foster that Erica brings home, as he was once in their shoes. The two now enjoy hanging out together, snuggling next to each other as if they’ve always been friends. Forest showers his new baby with snuggles and keeps her clean from head to toe. Phoebe is so much more content now that she has a real cuddle-buddy who makes her feel loved.

Phoebe may be small, but she is mighty. What she lacks in size, she surely makes up for in sheer will and determination. She sets her mind to climb everything she lays her paws on, and she does just that. Erica shared, “She has now decided that trying to climb my legs is today’s activity.” Phoebe is definitely the queen of the house and has brought so much joy to her foster family.
