Elderly Feral Cat Overcomes Tough Life to Become a Mama's Boy

Mr. Belvedere, a 10-year-old tomcat, was part of a small outdoor cat colony when he was rescued by a kind-hearted animal lover who noticed the sad look in his eyes. Although it is rare for tomcats to survive on the streets for so long, Mr. Belvedere had managed to do so, but he was in desperate need of help.
When he was finally caught in a trap, he was found to be extremely sick with bad veins and an ear mite. He was taken to the vet and tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), which meant that he needed to be humanized. Despite his poor health, the animal lover noticed a glimmer of fight left in Mr. Belvedere’s eyes and was determined to help him.

Knowing that socialization was an essential part of treating Mr. Belvedere, the rescuer started by using a wooden spoon to scratch his paw or back. Over time, the cat began to trust his caregiver and allowed him to treat his ears and give him eye drops. As he got better, Mr. Belvedere started to enjoy the company of his caregiver and eventually moved indoors for a well-deserved retirement.

The rescuer’s persistence in treating Mr. Belvedere paid off when they received an email from the perfect person to adopt him. The new owner fell in love with Mr. Belvedere instantly and was willing to give him all the love and care he needed.

The new owner played classical music and sang to Mr. Belvedere, and with a lot of TLC, the cat opened up and became very affectionate. He loved to play with toys and even sang different songs for each emotion. Mr. Belvedere’s story is an example of the importance of patience, time, and love when rescuing and rehabilitating animals.

Moreover, Mr. Belvedere’s story is spreading awareness about senior cats and senior FIV cats, as well as cats that were former community cats outside. The hard work, patience, time, and money required to rescue an animal like Mr. Belvedere are all worth it. It’s a unique experience to witness an animal like Mr. Belvedere and watch him thrive and spread love.
